DESCRIPTION
Two-component acid-resistant epoxy mortar. Component A is a mixture of epoxy resin,
silica inerts, and additives. Component B is a mixture of organic catalysts.
The main features of the product are as follows:
- Unlike other epoxy mortars on the market, the catalyst (part B) is labeled as an irritant only
- It is neither corrosive nor harmful to the environment
- The user can therefore have a particularly safe product during work
- Bacteriostatic product that prevents the proliferation of fungi and mosses
- High mechanical strength
- Does not absorb
- Stain-resistant
- Excellent chemical resistance
- Stable and uniform colors on all types of tiles with exclusive chromatic effects
- Recycled material content ≥ 10%
- The product's colors come from colored sintered quartz microbeads on the surface, which prevent the release of pigments onto the surface of the tiles and mosaics, making cleaning easier and faster
- Extremely easy to apply and clean, even compared to jointing mortars
- The fineness of the sintered quartz microbeads contained in the product allows for extremely smooth and compact finishes
- The formation of efflorescence typical of these products is avoided because the product does not contain it
- Suitable for indoor and outdoor applications, on floors and walls, under harsh service conditions
- Approved for use in the naval sector as a low flame spread product
- Product exempt from restrictions for road, sea, air and rail transport
- Product with low emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Compliant with EC1PLUS of the EMICODE protocol and class A+ (Indoor air emissions – French regulations).
AREAS OF APPLICATION
Starlike is ideal for laying and filling acid-resistant ceramic tiles and mosaics from 1 to 15 mm wide on floors and walls, indoors and outdoors:
Floors and earthenware in general;
Floors and earthenware in bathrooms and showers.
Underfloor heating.
Under-kitchen areas.
Terraces and balconies.
It is recommended for grouting tiles where resistance to chemical attack is required (see chemical resistance chart): cheese dairies, slaughterhouses, breweries, and
food processing industries. It is also used for grouting swimming pools or thermal and brackish water basins.
This product is guaranteed for direct food contact according to the Ministerial Decree of March 21, 1973 (Hygienic regulations for packaging, containers, and tools intended for direct contact with food and personal substances) and Ministerial Decrees 220 of April 26, 1993, 338 of July 22, 1998, and 123 of March 28, 2003. A copy of the certificate can be requested from the Litokol Technical Office.
The product can therefore be used for grouting tiles in areas where there may be direct contact with food: vises for processing meat, dairy products, or flour; fish farming tanks; worktops in restaurant kitchens; chip shops; pastry shops; etc.
It is ideal for bonding and grouting mosaic tiles in swimming pools and on decomposing mortars
for waterproofing: Elastocem and Coverflex.
PRELIMINARY TESTS AND SEAL REPAIRS
Check that the tile adhesive or mortar used for bonding the tiles has completely hardened and dried. The joints must be clean, free of any dust, and open to at least two-thirds of the tile thickness. Remove any excess tile adhesive or mortar.
Spill Report
COMPONENT A: 100 parts by weight
COMPONENT B: 7.2 parts by weight
Both components are supplied in pre-measured packaging
REPAIR OF THE STABILIZER
Pour the catalyst (component B), inside the container, into component A (paste). It is strongly recommended to pour the entire contents of the hardener, scraping the bottom of the container with a steel spatula. Ideally, use an electric mixer until a homogeneous, lump-free mixture is obtained. Hand mixing is not recommended. Both components are supplied in pre-measured containers to prevent mixing errors. The grouted surface can be cleaned within 45 minutes at 23°C.
TILE GROUTING
Spread the mixture using a green rubber trowel (Art. 104/G). For large areas, an electric floor scrubber with an abrasion-resistant rubber spatula can be used. Remove excess product with the rubber spatula. The application and curing time varies considerably depending on the ambient temperature.
The ideal temperature for proper application is between +18 and +23°C. In this case, the mixture is very pliable and easy to apply, with a working time of approximately 45 minutes. The surface can be opened to traffic after 24 hours. At a temperature of +15°C, three days must be allowed before opening to traffic.
The floor can be used for subsequent chemical treatment after 5 days at a temperature of +23°C and after 10 days at a temperature of +15°C.
At a temperature between +8 and +12°C, the product is very thick and difficult to spread.
The curing time is considerably longer. Adding water or solvents to facilitate application is not recommended. In high temperatures, it is advisable to spread the product quickly on the ground to avoid shortening the application time due to the heat of reaction present in the packaging.
CLEANING AND FINISHING
Cleaning and finishing the grout must be carried out while the product is still fresh, and in any case as quickly as possible, taking care not to empty the joints or leave stains on the tile surface. Cleaning and finishing can be done by hand or with a power floor scrubber with a felt pad.
BY HAND: First, rinse the grout area with clean water. Using a spatula with a moistened white felt pad (item 109/G), gradually emulsify the grout with clean water using circular motions to achieve perfect grouting and remove excess grout. Then, clean with a damp Sweepex sponge (item 128/G) to obtain a smooth, even surface, completely removing the product from the tiles and any excess water without emptying the joints. The resin-impregnated felt pad and sponge must be replaced. Residues, patinas, or mortar stains can be removed within 24 hours with LITONET detergents
(for floors) and LITONET GEL (for walls). Consult the technical data sheet before use. SINGLE
-PUMP MACHINE: After removing excess mortar, rinse the surface thoroughly with clean water. Then clean with the single-pump machine with a felt pad. Replace the felt pad when it becomes saturated with the product.
USING LITONET TO REMOVE ANY STAINS: Pour LITONET or spray LITONET GEL onto the surface and spread it with a Scotch-Brite pad. Let the product work for approximately 15-30 minutes. Then scrub with a white Scotch-Brite pad (item 109/G) or the single-pump machine with a felt pad. Rinse with clean water and wipe immediately with a dry cloth. Do not wait for the rinse water to evaporate to avoid the formation of halos.
USE IN GLUING
Apply the mixture to the surface with a suitable spatula and lay the tiles under strong pressure.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Use the product preferably at temperatures between +18°C and +23°C. Avoid application
at excessively low temperatures or in high humidity to prevent surface carbonation, which could alter color uniformity.
Remove excess product from the tile surface immediately, as hardened product can only be removed mechanically. All of these factors can compromise the quality of the work.
The product cannot be used for grouting Cotto Toscano (Terracotta).
The product cannot be used for grouting containers with aggressive substances
tolerated only in cases of intermittent contact (refer to the chemical resistance chart).
Do not use the product for grouting surfaces in contact with oleic acid:
meat processing plants and oil mills.
Do not mix the product with water or solvents.
Do not use the product for applications not mentioned in this technical data sheet.
Exposure to UV rays may cause slight color variations over time.
Mix the two components (A+B) thoroughly.
Change the rinsing water frequently.
Change the Scotch-Brite pad and sponge when they are saturated with the product.
Do not wait more than 24 hours before cleaning with LITONET or LITONET GEL.
Do not walk on the grouted surface while the product is still fresh. This may stain the tiles.
Do not cover the grouted surface with tarpaulins to avoid condensation, which could cause carbonation. Wait at least 24-48 hours, depending on the temperature, before protecting the surface.
This product cannot be used for grouting Cotto Toscano (terracotta) or other
highly porous materials such as concrete edging.
Before grouting very porous natural stones, it is necessary to test on a part of the slab to check the absorption of the epoxy resin; in some cases, it could leave indelible halos on the surface, especially with light-colored natural stones.
